A glittering career sometimes hides some of the darkest stories beneath. Lolo has achieved her present post after a lot of struggle and patience. Jones, who was born into a family of no mothers that included five kids living who were stricken by poverty and hardship when she was a kid, endured an extremely difficult early life. Her mother lived on the roads and within the basement of the local church at one point. A life of constant movement made it necessary for Jones to change schools and attend an entirely new school each year, until she began high school. Jones was able to move away from her mother and moved to Theodore Roosevelt in order for her to focus on her track interest. Her family was split up throughout high school, so that she was focused on her academics. Jones won her the Gatorade Iowa Track & Field Athlete of the Year award during her time at school. She also was an active member of the school orchestra, as a cello player. As she began college, Jones proved to be one of the top hurdlers. She was the winner of the 100-meter hurdles at the 2002 NCAA Track & Field Championship. She also participated in the team that finished second in the 100-meters relay. Jones was the winner of the NCAA Indoor Hurdles contest in the years 2003 as well as in 2004. Jones has been training since 2005 when she graduated from her studies. In 2005 she won winning the Torino Memorial race, in 2006 she was one of the Heusden and Ostrava racers.

Brandt relocated to Cape Town South Africa to Auckland New Zealand at the at the end of her teenage years.
